I was talking to my sister today and this verse came up to my mind to encourage her. Now, the context in which it was given is this: Disunity among believers in Corinth needed to be addressed: they have divided their loyalty to a given apostle or leader. So, they are warned not to boast in men. In other words, how easy is for us to worry about what is going to happen next day (tell me!), so next verse cuts right thru: "whether... the world or life or death or the present or the future- all are yours, and you are Christ's and Christ is of God" 1 Cor 3:22-23 (NIV)
Application (some thoughts included): 1. The promise is given to a church: body of believers. 2. We are reminded that Christ is God's only Son. 3. We are reminded that we belong to Christ. 4. We are reminded that all the next belong to us 4. 1. The world: called to subdue the Earth and be good stewards of the resources God has provided us. 4. 2. Life: the fruitful life that comes by abiding in Christ. 4. 3. Death: why fear death if one is in Christ? 4. 4. The present and the future: It is a reminder that God provides and will provide for us. I can't help but think of both: the physical and the spiritual bread.
Hope you were encouraged as I am. God has been faithful and will always be. Let us praise to the Lord for His mercy endures forever and extends from generation to generation.
