Well, once in a while one get good ideas from ppl who lay down well the facts about the problem but hardly get it with the answer -no wonder why. Only One is wise above all: God.
Anyway, a little bit of my own background with this "illness" ...When I just came to u.s. I worked like crazy since my apt. complex was across my workplace (!) . Now I've changed a lot -by the grace of God . Nonetheless, I am reminded -and hopefully may you get encouraged too- to keep up on the right track...
Warning signs: ask yourself this questions
1. Is your home is just another office?
2. Are you hard-driving, competitive, and overly committed to your work?
3. Do you take office equipment with you wherever you go, even on vacations?
4. Work makes you happier than anything else in your life?
5. Sleep and playtime seem like a waste?
6. Do you believe that if you get the chance to do it again, you'll do it right?
7. Do you get restless on vacation (if you even take them) and sometimes cut them short?
8. Do you frequently are "problem solving" work situations in your mind, even during your "time off."?
9. Friends either don't call anymore, or you can't wait to get off the phone when they do call.?
10. People who love you tell you that "you have a lot of energy," are "manic," or are a "workhorse."?
11. Are you tired, irritable, socially isolated, and might even have physical stress symptoms such as headaches, insomnia, shortness of breath, racing heart, muscle tension, or ulcers?
Searching questions to see one is in the way of workaholism....
Now, the therapy...(O God help us!)
1. Schedule time for your primary relationship
Sure, agree with the article. But above anything else...get your relationship with Jesus first priority. And if already there, keep it up. Glorify him.
2. Make time for your friendships.
Now, here I disagree with the first line of that section in the article. Why? To me, friends are a precious treasure God has given us. Not people to use to get something from. Same thing with Jesus: Let's come to his feet to give, not to get. For God's word says...
"...to the saints who are...faithful in Christ Jesus...Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing...(Eph 1:1-3)"
3. Take care of your body.
Exercise physically (eat, sleep, rest) and... spiritually:
Getting truth -in the Word- and living it out -holy lives pleasing to God.
4. Re-examine your long-term goals.
Keeping eyes fixed upon Jesus
5. Re-examine your short-term goals.
God's mercies are new every day. Start the day as if it were your last one.
6. If you just can't do it on your own, get counseling and do what the counselor suggests.
I disagree with this point but...we ought to listen to Jesus's words: "But the Helper... will teach you all things (Jn 14:26)"
p.s. wait, I gotta go bed
p.s.s. in case you wanted to know where the original article is, pls reply...
